Bacteria and Enzyme Technology
Silage is the base for your cow’s diet in the winter months and so is crucial to economic milk production and healthy cows. The importance of making good silage should be your number one priority each summer.
Silage Management
Management of this involves harvesting at the right time to capture more nutrients from the crop and being confident that your choice of inoculant will enhance this process and allow you to produce nutritious and palatable silage every time which your cows love to eat. Achieving this means your options for balancing the diet are easier. Stability is a huge factor in achieving high intakes and Optimize Plus can help improve silage stability.
Lactic Acid
Acidosis is caused by low pH silage and this is a key factor in lowering intake potential and is often seen with more young early-cut, high nutrient grass and forage crops. Therefore controlling lactic acid levels is necessary on many farms today and Optimize Plus can help to reduce acidosis.
The Optimize formulation contains no lactobacillus due to all forage crops containing sufficient numbers of lactobacillus colony forming units per gramme.
Optimize Plus™ incorporates the latest enzyme biotechnology for efficient silage fermentation and nutrient preservation.
Optimize Plus has been developed for use over the widest possible range of forage types to improve silage aerobic stability, reduce waste and maximise energy. Designed to kill out spoilage organisms, yeasts and moulds in the early stages of acidification between pH 7.0 and 5.0, Optimize Plus then populates the silage with the correct stabilising bacillus without creating too much acidity in the pit.
Dr. Keith Jones of Lancaster University confirmed "In an anaerobic atmosphere, Optimize provides the dominant gram positive desirable bacteria for efficient ensiling".
The additive enables farmers to treat for mycotoxins at the point of ensiling rather than at feed out. Well preserved silage leads to healthier rumen micro flora and more efficient digestion. An increase in appetite for silage results in a healthier, more productive cow.
